It’s funny when our conservative administration and the right wing media refer to most Middle Eastern religion and cultures as warmongering, one-sided intolerants that have little grasp on modern values and share a fundamental unwillingness to promote peace. I’m thinking, “Oh yeah, like that guy on campus with the sign hollering gay slurs telling students that drink, curse, and fornicate they’re all going to rot in hell, must be from somewhere around Turkey, right?...”

What about the fact that most middle eastern countries (excluding Isreal) are non-democratic and furthermore beleive in pursuing a complete Muslim domination--this may be seen as demonic. Thus one can beg the question perhaps they are not capable of "modern" acceptance and idealology. Yes our country has some crazies but no worries because what about the rest of us who cannot survive without a capitalist system...i.e. entire salaries based on selling more to people or giving preferential treatment to certian customers (loyalty programs)? Any group of peoples who think they have the monopoly on salvation and G*d are not only severly doomed but are more drastically severly in turmoil and confusion.
Thanks for the interest. I don't argue that most Middle Eastern countries need to dilute an all encompassing absolute truth to become, if at all capable of tolerance and peace, but look carefully at the hypocrisy in our own vindicated radicals pointing the finger. I think we're on the same page pjb.
The sad thing about this topic is that children are taught to hate so early on in their lives. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to undo misconceptions about another human being's choices...be it their religious preference, sexual preference, etc.
